NM Coupling Selection for Compressor Auxiliary Drives

Compressor coupling selection needs a real start and torque description rather than a steady motor-power number by itself.

Compressor drives can be more dynamic than a steady-running power figure suggests. Loaded starts, cycling and torque pulsation can change what the coupling sees even when the motor nameplate looks ordinary.

Use the table for screening and the duty for review.

First identify models that cover nominal torque, speed and both bores. Then describe how the compressor starts and runs. The published NM table does not provide a universal overload multiplier, so the transient part of the duty should not be invented from another catalogue.

Re-check alignment after the machine is fully connected.

Base conditions and attached equipment can move the shafts after initial assembly. Use the model-specific radial and angular values as boundaries and investigate repeated elastomer damage instead of treating it as normal consumable wear.
