Pump packages are one of the clearest NM use cases because the coupling sits between two pieces of rotating equipment whose shafts and alignment can be measured directly. The hard part is not naming the application. It is making sure the selected model covers the duty and still fits both shafts.
Start with the operating point, not the old coupling color.
For a new pump package, give motor power or design torque, running speed, shaft diameters and the pump type. For a replacement, add the old model marking and hub dimensions, but verify the shafts independently. A worn elastomer can hide an alignment problem, and an old coupling may have been bored differently on each side.
NM couplings provide damping through the flexible ring and publish model-specific radial and angular allowances. Keep the machine aligned inside those limits. If the pump base or piping loads move the shafts outside them, correcting the installation matters more than choosing a softer element.
What belongs in a pump RFQ
Tell us whether the pump runs continuously or cycles, whether the motor starts across the line or through a controlled starter, and whether the service sees shock or process upset. Shaft diameters, keyways, speed and quantity are the minimum useful interface data. For packaged equipment, an assembly drawing or a simple shaft-to-shaft spacing measurement helps check the available envelope.
